Personal Interests
Living in a big city like Chicago, there is always something to do, it is hard to feel board. During the summer times, I enjoy going to rooftop parties or the beaches and listening to music. A big interest of mine is music. There is not a day that could go by where I am not listening to something. Music has this amazing power of not only connecting you with strangers, but also making yourself feel good. Some of my best memories of my life have been around strangers and connecting with them because of the song or artist that is on stage or blasting through the speakers. Music has also played a role in my life outside of it being social, I find I am at my best when I study or am doing work listening to music, it is relaxing or motiving.
One last thing, I am a HUGE sports fan. While growing up in Cleveland was not easy (being a sports fan) and watching our professional football team go 0-16, I always supported my home team, no matter how embarrassing it was. Coming to Chicago I was a bit iffy about supporting teams here, but I now consider myself a Cleveland and Chicago sports fan, what I realized about both cities is that we do not always have the best score or the most entertaining teams, but we share strong fanbases and get behind our teams no matter a win or a loss. I played a few sports growing up, while I do not have the knees that I once had when I was younger (I am only 23 years old) I still enjoy watching other people play the sports I love most. Occasionally I will come out of retirement and do a pickup game here or there.
Outside of work or class, I enjoy doing a lot of activities. Some days you might catch me at a local park playing kickball for an intramural team, other days you will find me exploring the city or going to music events with friends during the weekends, and occasionally whenever I am feeling a bit lazy, you might catch me binge watching Harry Potter or watching "Your Friends & Neighbors" a show on Apple TV.
Traveling
Other than music, I enjoy traveling. Ever since I was a kid, I have always been a seeker of new cultures, experiences, and taking advantage of the blessings in life. I have had the privilege of not just traveling within the United States but have had the experiences of traveling to other parts of the world. Every year I go back to my home country of Guatemala to visit some family that still lives there, other years I am lucky enough to travel to places like Italy, the United Kingdom, or Spain. Hopefully I am able to travel more countries around the world as I get older.
Traveling for me is not just going places that are miles away, I also enjoy going to different parts of Chicago. One of my favorite places to go is Pilsen, it allows me to be surrounded by people who look like me and share cultural values. I am also always looking for a nice place to eat, and thus far I have found some amazing sports, some I am willing to share and others I like to keep to myself haha.
I hope you learned a bit more about me, I like to believe that I live a pretty cool and fun life. I contribute that to being adventurous and just being myself, along with putting myself in new situations which have thus far translated into life long friends, memories, and opportunities.
